Bland and Boring?
You didn’t get in to blogging for that. You want to make an impact, be a part of something bigger, and contribute to the world. If you really want to get crazy…
You want to change the world, right?
Part of changing the world is getting people on board with your cause, and finding like-minded fans who will push your ideas to everyone they know. So how does that happen? Here are 5 tips…
1. Write Down Your Bones
The words you must say or you’re going to burst. What you can feel in your bones. Don’t censor, don’t hold back, we want your true self. The rest be damned!
2. Prioritize with Discipline
Do you want to write, play music, exercise, or spend more time with family? Then stop dicking around on Facebook. Do the things you need to do right now, so you can do other things later.
3. Ship Regularly
Quit obsessing about perfection. Doesn’t exist. Especially when you’re a start-up blogger. Usually it acts as a form of resistance, a delay tactic. Get your ideas and posts on your site, guest post for others, and be consistent. Build up a draft folder of completed posts you can publish when you’re in a rut. Keep working.
4. Care about the Details
Your headlines matter. So does SEO, social media engagement, metadata, visitor analytics, and plenty more. They don’t matter more than writing and shipping, but if your headline and opening lines suck, no one is going to read anyway. We are in a short attention span culture with plenty of other great stuff to read. Grab attention from the headline and hold on.
5. Be Generous
Life is not about you. Hopefully you have a grasp of this truth, and why you want to champion a cause besides the “greatness of you”. Give to others, share their work, make your best content free, just wildly give! People will notice your kindness and return the favor. Or they won’t, and that’s ok. Keep giving.
That is all. Now get going!
