Ship your first (or next) 10 videos on YouTube

Starting a YouTube channel is easy. Knowing what to create, how to build an audience, connect with viewers and do it strategically is the hard part - and we haven't even talked about the technical details.

What camera should I use? Is the lighting good? How do I sound? Editing?!

If you're ready to start (or reboot) a YouTube channel but feel intimidated, I'm here to help you!

πŸ’‘ Generate endless ideas

What's so scary about YouTube? A lot, tbh...

Publishing a video is a different experience than publishing your writing. It's more than words, a video is literally... you. So I understand there's a lot of nervousness about creating and publishing! Here are the most common fears I've seen.

πŸ‘Ž Poor quality (audio, video, lighting)
😬 Video is embarrassing
βœ‚οΈ Editing is hard to do well

Luckily, the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives. A YouTube channel helps you...

The only thing stopping you... is you

A YouTube channel is an opportunity to share your expertise, grow your profile, connect with others, and so much more. In my opinion it's the best creator platform in the world. Better by far than any other social media platform. And it's only growing in strength and viewership.

But you won't do it because "your voice sounds weird", don't have enough time, lack ideas for content, or a good enough camera. I get it. These challenges are very real. Here's the secret... they don't matter. As Marie Forleo says "everything is figureoutable"

I started my YouTube channel in February 2017 off a podcast I let die, an art service that didn't make any money, and a 5 year old blog that had netted me ~ 500 subscribers in that time. I didn't have a content plan, "nice" camera, or any real existing audience.

My only goal at this point was to be consistent. Didn't matter what the topic was or the video length. I was tired of half-assing things. It was time to ship.

Follow best practices and build confidence in your videos from day one

Here's the good news. You don't need to take 11 months and 70 videos to figure out Youtube. I already did that for you. You don't need to be intimidated about the technical details. I'll show you how to do it all. You don't need to come up with all your ideas from scratch. I'll show you how to get all the content ideas you could ever need.

I want to be perfectly honest from the start. I can't promise you specific subscriber growth. Anyone who tells you they can is probably lying or you can't afford them. What I can promise you is that you'll leave this training with a clear plan for how you can start a channel and succeed on YouTube.

FAQs

When are the video publication dates?

The community publication days are Wednesday and Saturday. But the important "requirement" is to publish two videos per week, even if you aren't on the exact same days.

Are you offering this again?

To be honest it depends on how all of this goes! It's a challenge to help myself and others publish 10 videos in 5 weeks to (kick)start a YouTube channel. This first round is an experiment.

What editing software do you use?

If you're not familiar with video editing, I recommend (and teach) Descript. I first started using it to edit my podcasts, but they since added video editing. Descript makes editing as simple as deleting words in a Google Doc (seriously). If you’re already familiar with editing in Premier, Final Cut, or iMovie, then by all means keep editing in those tools. But all examples in the course feature Descript.

Have a question I didn't list? Email me?

Even though I think of a lot, I never think of everything. If you have questions about the challenge just email me at work@mattragland.com and I'll get back to you ASAP.
