Seth Godin wrote a book about “The Dip” several years ago and it may be one of his most important messages. I’ve been thinking about this theme a lot recently.
February is a month where lots of goals and habits dip. It’s cold, wet, and dark – not very compliant with the bright eyed hope from the beginning of the year. Ideas die in the dip. But there is also opportunity.
This week consider a quick retrospective on the the habits you committed to in the New Year. Do you still have the energy or desire to master those habits or skills? Perhaps you simply need to re-prioritize and re-schedule January goals for later in the year?
At the very least, noting the places you’re dipping this month are signals to meditate on the time and energy applied to things that matter. The dip doesn’t mean you’re bad at a skill or new habit. But a dip may signal that you haven’t given a habit the time or priority it needs to succeed.
If you have a moment, drop me a quick reply and let me know if you are excited about these weekly prompts. I’m still working through the replies from the end of January, but rest assured I will write back.
Have a great week,
Matt
