People always ask me the exact process I use to create a sketchnote, and it’s a little hard to explain, because each sketchnote is so different! There are new ideas, images, and things that resonate I want to put on paper.
What I hope you have learned is a new way to think.
That’s more important than how you sketch, layout the information, or anything else. What this practice will do is help you think about ideas and remember important points in a new way.
But I still want to show you how I go through it 🙂
The video below is a full setup, sketch, and recap of a TED Talk by Nilofer Merchant. I explain how I get started and what my thought process was like after the sketch is completed. You’ll also see where I made some mistakes and how I go back and fill in the details.
If you have any sketchnotes you’d like to share with me, just respond to this email, or mention me on Twitter @mattragland. I’d enjoy seeing how your work is going too!
