Your method for planning and reviewing the week is key element of your personal productivity. Here’s a simple system for getting the most important work done.
What we’re going to be talking about today is setting your productivity benchmark for the week. Because it is really important to establish a benchmark of what you can do so you can have a better understanding of what you’re capable of.
I’m not talking about compared to anyone else, because that is really tough when it comes to the comparison trap. And so you’re going to set your own benchmark of what you can do so you can know how much you’ve grown as we progress through our time together.
What I’m going to show you at the beginning is a short overview of my weekly review system, the prompts and questions that I asked myself, and then show you how I preview the coming week.
Let’s talk about the preview. I use the acronym G.A.P. – which stands for goals, actions, and planning. We’ll take a quick look at each.
GAP Weekly Planning
Goals: what are my top 1-3 goals for the week?
Actions: what are the sub-tasks or contingencies for each goal?
Planning: when will I plan the time to work on the top goals and tasks?
There’s another little addendum to G.A.P. – the little s of Systems. These are additional tasks which need to be done naturally during the week, like hosting our call, sending replays.
I often don’t put those as one of my top one to three goals because the way that the business functions, those are just going to happen naturally. I’ll still put them in my bullet journal for the daily tasks on whatever day they are due, but I don’t write it down as one of my top goals.
Now use the GAP method to preview the coming week. What’s your ONE goal? List the action steps, then plan time to take action. This works well for a goal or task you’ve been procrastinating on – this week you slay the dragon! ⚔️🐉
WRAP Weekly Review
I use a short little acronym for my weekly review – W.R.A.P. which stands for, wins, results, alignment and pivots. Let’s take a quick look at each.
Wins: what went well? What was I proud of? Doesn’t all have to be work or achievement related!
Results: how did I do with the weekly plan? Did I complete all the top goals and tasks?
Alignment: does the work I’m doing and goals I reached align with my bigger goals and purpose in life?
Pivot: what do I need to change going into next week?
The W.R.A.P. review allows me to do is make a better preview for the coming week, because I’ve learned from the past week’s preview.
